Using Google To GEO Target Specific Countries

Living in the United States, many searchers go unaware that there are different country versions of Google and that they redirect users to local versions of SERPs based on a visitor’s IP address. For example, if you lived in the UK and went to Google to look for something you would be directed to Google.co.uk and have a completely different set of search results. Possibly even a different language. These searchers will never see your listing even if they type a keyword you rank #1 for on google.com. If you do business in other countries and want to reach those customers, you need to take steps to make sure that Google finds your website relevant to your target country.

First, get a country specific domain name with the correct TLD. If you want high rankings in Germany’s google.de, its much easier if you have the corresponding .de top level domain.

Second, secure an IP address in that country. Rent a hosting server from a company in that country for your TLD. This indicates to google you are targeting that market.

Third, establish that your website is located in the targeted country. Use a postal address from the country and put it in your site footer. Add a small snippet to your about us page about the region.

Fourth, use country specific content on your webpage. If you are targeting Germany for example, why wouldnt your sales copy be in Deutsch? Native languages are a quick way to improve your chances of being listed in Googles results. Even things like tweaking the dialect or adding some common slang words from the region can help.

Fifth, acquire backlinks from other websites in the country you are targeting. Not necessarily simple, but can be done with some research, work and a dash of luck.

Follow these steps and your chances to dominate your targeted country’s SERPs will improve immensely.

How To Create A Facebook Fan Page

Facebook is the most popular social networking site with over 500 million active users, half of whom log onto Facebook on any single day. The average Facebook user has 130 friends and according to the website’s statistics, these users spend over 700 billion minutes per month combined! If you do the math, you’ll see that the average Facebook user spends over an hour a day on the site, totaling more than 40 hours a month!


If you want a really broad reach, Facebook is the way to go. Whatever kind of customer or audience member you’re searching for, odds are they’re represented somewhere on Facebook among those many millions of users. Most marketers join Facebook in the hopes of starting a “viral” marketing campaign. Word of mouth campaigns are some of the most effective in converting loyal customers.


If this is you, you may be wondering how to take the very first step and create a Facebook Fan Page. Facebook’s user interface is fairly simple, but not necessarily intuitive to a new member. Here are step by step instructions:

  1. Sign up for a standard personal account on Facebook. You can’t actually start a Fan Page without some kind of personal account to “administrate” the page. So don’t go searching all over the site for how to open a “business account.” It doesn’t exist.


  1. Once you’ve opened a personal account and set up a basic profile, you can go about setting up a business page. Do you see the panel on the left side of your screen with “News Feed, Messages, Events, Friends” and the like? If you click on “More,” you’ll see another icon which says “Ads and Pages.” Click on it.


  1. On the top of the page, you’ll see a link which says “Pages.” Clicking on it will reveal the following message: “You have not created any pages. Create a Page.” Click on “Create a Page.”


  1. Now you’ll be shown some basic options for your page. You can select from “Local Business or Place,” “Brand or Product,” “Artist, Band or Public Figure,” and several other options. Once you select your choice you’ll fill in several more data points including a name for your Fan Page, category, location, etc. Once you read the Terms of Service (the most important point being that you must officially represent the entity or organization in question in order to create a Fan Page), you can check the ToS agreement box and your page will be created!


  1. Now that your page exists, you can start personalizing it. Click on the big question mark to add an image which will be your page’s avatar. If you then click on “Edit Info” near the top of the screen you’ll have an opportunity to fill in a lot of information about your business or organization. Once you finish filling in the information you can start posting to your Wall and adding photos to establish your presence.


A Facebook Fan Page works just like your administrative profile; you can make your page public or private—since you’re running a social media campaign, you probably want to make your page public! You can post to your own Wall and give others the right to post to your Wall. When you post to your Fan Page, it will show up in your administrative stream. When you post to your personal Wall, it won’t show up on your Fan Page. You should make a point to go back to your personal profile and add a link to your Fan Page somewhere in your information where it can be prominently seen. It’s often easier to find friends than fans, so you can cultivate fans via your administrative profile.


There is also a “Discussion” feature which you can use to get the conversation rolling about your product, organization or brand. The “Reviews” section is a good way to start building up testimonials, which are one of the most influential marketing tools you can use to find new fans and customers.


Your Fan Page comes with a photo album. It’s important to note that if you upload photos to your personal photo album you cannot easily transfer them to your Fan Page photo album; you will need to upload them again from scratch. You can’t upload photos to your Fan Page and transfer them to your profile either. This is highly inconvenient, so plan accordingly!


Page Insights is an analytic feature which you can use to find out more information about your active users, new likes and lifetime likes. You can see which users are active over a daily, weekly or monthly period. Further insights break your users down demographically to show you what percentage of your fans are male or female, and what their age brackets are. You can also see how many users you get from each country and what languages your fans are speaking. If people are finding you from backlinks elsewhere on the web, they will display here. You can also check out who is viewing or listening to your videos, audio and photos.


The last step of course is to go find some fans for your Fan Page! Start with friends, business partners or family members who you know will be interested and then start reaching out to the community or industry which you’re a part of. Exchange Facebook likes with other people and support their Fan Pages. Take some time to really interact in the community—part of social media is to actually socialize with people about other topics. You need to show people that you care about them in order for them to start caring about you or whatever it is you are trying to sell or promote. Marketing a Fan Page is not as easy as it sounds – you’ll need to find quality likes, not just a large quantity of likes. Quality Signals – The Google Panda Undressed

In the world of search engine marketing, the nickname of the latest algorithm update from Google has internet marketers contemplating an early extinction for pandas everywhere. Short of a shooting spree that still wont help your ranks, a closer look at the beast can help you grasp what Google now considers important about website content and if you have it or not.
Many have argued that quality doesnt matter and search engines aren’t smart enough to know what is good or bad quality. Countless debates have ranged in countless forums and chats on the topic. Most everything is speculation anyways. Until of course, the search engine confirms it publically. Which is what Google did at their
webmaster blog last May. It still amazes me when someone is complaining about their ranks dropping while arguing quality doesnt matter. Well, it does folks. The ones that get this are the ones that are still at the top of the SERPs.
If you were affected negatively by the Panda update, there are a few things you can do to bring your ranks back. The first is to make sure all your on page SEO points are covered. If you arent sure what these are, either read up on them
here or use our SEO software to analyze your pages.
The second is to use Google’s
checklist of quality questions they provided and compare it to your content. Here is what they say are the main points to look for:

  • Would you trust the information presented in this article?
  • Is this article written by an expert or enthusiast who knows the topic well, or is it more shallow in nature?
  • Does the site have duplicate, overlapping, or redundant articles on the same or similar topics with slightly different keyword variations?
  • Would you be comfortable giving your credit card information to this site?
  • Does this article have spelling, stylistic, or factual errors?
  • Are the topics driven by genuine interests of readers of the site, or does the site generate content by attempting to guess what might rank well in search engines?
  • Does the article provide original content or information, original reporting, original research, or original analysis?
  • Does the page provide substantial value when compared to other pages in search results?
  • How much quality control is done on content?
  • Does the article describe both sides of a story?
  • Is the site a recognized authority on its topic?
  • Is the content mass-produced by or outsourced to a large number of creators, or spread across a large network of sites, so that individual pages or sites don’t get as much attention or care?
  • Was the article edited well, or does it appear sloppy or hastily produced?
  • For a health related query, would you trust information from this site?
  • Would you recognize this site as an authoritative source when mentioned by name?
  • Does this article provide a complete or comprehensive description of the topic?
  • Does this article contain insightful analysis or interesting information that is beyond obvious?
  • Is this the sort of page you’d want to bookmark, share with a friend, or recommend?
  • Does this article have an excessive amount of ads that distract from or interfere with the main content?
  • Would you expect to see this article in a printed magazine, encyclopedia or book?
  • Are the articles short, unsubstantial, or otherwise lacking in helpful specifics?
  • Are the pages produced with great care and attention to detail vs. less attention to detail?
  • Would users complain when they see pages from this site?

They then recommend you either delete your low quality content outright or rewrite / improve it with as much value and uniquness as you can. Developing high quality content is the name of the game now. Even one or two pages of low quality amongst the others can bring the whole site’s rank down. Research, Analysis and SerpIQ

Have an idea for a website? How about a product or service to sell? Do you even know if there will be any demand, any customers searching for you or your item? Many who start down the path of building a website and doing business online usually start with the website. But success starts with knowing what to build, how to build it and how strong the competition is.

You need to research which keywords are used and determine if there is enough online demand to justify the project and it’s expense. Then you need to take your keywords and analyze the top 10 competitors to judge how hard it will be to enter the market. I say the top 10, because the first page is all that matters. Those 10 are the strongest and are your rivals. Look at their on page optimization, analyze their content, research their back link profiles, see their presence and popularity on social media, research their domain authority and in general gauge the difficulty of ranking up against them. Does it have the potential for profit when you factor in all the variables?
Doing the competition research on just one keyword can take several hours. Combined that with your keyword list that could be a 100 terms long, you are talking a significant part of a week to get a good assessment on whether your website can be successful or not. However, you can’t afford not to do the research. You need a solid foundation of knowledge and facts to build your website out on or all your hard work could come crashing down around you and out of the search engine results pages.
A few months ago I was fortunate enough to be in the right time at the right place and got in on the launch of a new website.
